I give my kids a spoonful of honey (also antimicrobial) with about a half a garlic clove (or whole, or a 1/4, depending on the size of the clove), minced. They swallow it down, though they aren't happy about it. I let them have a glass of pretty much any beverage we have on hand - even soda if they want and we have it - to wash it down. The symptoms are usually gone the next day. I'm impressed with your homemade cough syrup! I've made some for our kids with honey, anise, thyme, and peppermint. I think it works as well as the store bought stuff without nasty chemicals. I'm guessing what you made is better since you have access to Eucalyptus leaves.
